September 18, 2009 Freaky Friday

What does the White Rabbit say, "I'm late, I'm late fro a very important date."  Where's my timepiece?  Today was an exercise in capitalizing on the one-to-one capacity of homeschooling.  Limited time.  So we worked on time.  Definitely knowing what each slash on an analog clock for Frazer is a challenge.  Used the wipe board a ton to notate 1/4 of the face equally fifteen minutes, half past, 3/4 quarters.  Then even worked on 9:02 and other similiar times.  Frazer listened to the explanations and watched to diagrams but I don't thin the correlations have imprinted.  We played a card game and he had to find matching times in either written expression or analog or digital.  He also had to write the time on the centimeter graph paper.  He is slugging through as he does and he is great about persisting.

After an hour of time work we read a story in Henry and Mudge.  He truly almost read unaided.  He is developing m,ore sight words without cues.  We did Great Leaps twice.  The first time he bombed.  He did not seem able to focus.  He did not want to do it a second time but then regrouped and was able to easily focus.   His score was moderate.  The same sight word recognition that ishelping him in his reading also gets in his way for some of these drills -- or at least that is what Marmi explained to me.  He starts thinking he knows the words without reading each sound and that is good.  It is a dance.

Did the White Rabbit dance?  Or just hope along to the next date.  I nice thing about only have a short energy burst on Friday after the grueling week is that we got or work done and then hung out.  He could have done more but I loved just reading to myself for a bit.  It hink on this journey we are on will have to definitely find moments for me to regroup and refuel especially when William is out of town so much.
